Oswald of Carim is a grim character who deals in sinners and sin. He will appear at the base of the bell-tower, in Undead Parish, after the Gargoyles are defeated and the bell is rung. He also sells Purging Stones, for half the price of what the female Undead Merchant asks, which are used to cure the player's Curse status.

Request Absolution

After committing a sin, the player's name will be added to the Book of the Guilty, which is a hit-list for the Blades of the Darkmoon Covenant. Request Absolution will remove the player's name from the book, the downside is that it will cost 2000 x current level worth of souls. A bonus of absolving one's sin, is that aggravated NPCs will go back to their normal selves. So if a player accidentally hits a key NPC, the act can be reverted for a substantial fee.
  • Known sins are:
    • Hitting NPCs.
    • Breaking a Covenant pledge.
    • It hasn't yet been confirmed, but I think that attacking the (already hostile) NPC's in the forest -beyond the door that is next to the bonfire -is also considered a sin. -MilitantBread. Answer: Only if you are in the Forest Hunter Covenant

Abandon Covenant

Safely abandons the player's current covenant free of cost and without committing sin.
